Spring is in the air, and with it the cravings for fruity summer flavours. Luckily, my mum had some raspberries and blueberries in the freezer - and that’s how the Very Berry French Toast was born! Made with stale bread (and stale works better than fresh, actually), cottage cheese and frozen berries, a feel good breakfast approved by my little helpers, Zosia and Kola. Friday was all about baking! @klaudia.swietek and me visited a preschool in Bochnia for a baking workshop (@k_laudia_g thanks for inviting us! 💛) We made Dreamy Rainbow Cookies again, but this time with a twist: gluten free, lactose free and sugar free! Food allergies and intolerances have to be approached creatively, we thought, and we worked to develop recipe for cookies that all the children from Bochnia’s Therapeutic Preschool ‘Sensori’ could eat. Stories from our test kitchen: chocolate, oat and banana cookies, attempt two. We are working on the recipes using overripe bananas 🍌 These cookies, however, proved to be rather unpopular amongst our families and friends, even though @klaudia.swietek and me like them a lot! It seems to us, that anything with reduced sugar (or no sugar at all, like these) loses the battle for attention in the baked goods department. Zlatorog Temno from Pivovarna Laško, Slovenia 🇸🇮. When talking to a Slovenian (the one who let us pitch a tent on the meadow by his house) about my enthusiasm for beers, I was asked if I had posted Laško yet. I told him I had bought a couple bottles of Union already, his response being: "In Slovenia we drink Laško and we pee Union" 😂😂. Well I wouldn't like to disappoint, so I picked one of these up before we left! A Dark Lager at 4.9%. A smoky malt flavour with a subtle dark fruit sweetness. Finish is only slightly bitter. Pale Ale from Varionica, Croatia 🇭🇷. Back in Croatia, we decided to take a day off and visit a few places we hadn't yet had the chance to, but as our luck would have it, it was a pretty grey and rainy day 😂. At least we could seek refuge in a cafe, and luckily this one had a beer I hadn't tried yet! A Pale Ale at 5.2%. Pine and citrus flavours with a hint of tropical fruit. Slightly malty, bitter finish. Treluppoli from Procaccini, Italy 🇮🇹. Done a little reading on the Craft Beer scene in Italy recently and found out a few things which seem true so far to me 😂. One that stood out was that brewers often put a lot more effort into their labels, which can often look more like a wine bottle label, and their bottles (as you can see here!). But we all know, it's what's inside that counts 😉. An American Pale Ale at 5.2%. Quite dry with some floral notes. Some fruity hints which, to be honest, make it taste a little bit like a dry white wine. Smooth, not too carbonated and a slightly bitter, dry finish. (Massively) late birthday wishes for @ahohomemadefood 😁. Well over a week ago now we had a party in the local village hall, which aho transformed into a pretty impressive venue! She made her own cookie dough cake which looked and tasted awesome (maybe a bit weird she made it for her own birthday, but I guess at least that way she knew it would be good 😉), and we almost finished the vodka leftover from the wedding 😂 so i'm sure some of you can understand why it's taken me so long to post!
